Brennan Park Splash Park & Playground Public Engagement What We Heard Report NOW AVAILABLE!
November, 2024
The District of Squamish is developing a splash park at Brennan Park. The splash park will be built with a focus on inclusion and accessibility, with features that will allow all children to use and enjoy this area.
Public Engagement - Significant interest has been expressed by the community for a splash park. It has been identified as a community need (short-term zero to five years) in the BPFLMP. There were 915 survey responses to the splash park and playground public survey in February 2024. A summary of survey responses is as follows:
- Desire for a splash park and playground suitable for all ages and sized to accommodate anticipated community growth and demand.
- Stronger interest in a splash park than playground, with 87% prioritizing a splash park over a playground.
- Concern about splash park water use when Squamish has water use restrictions.
- Identified benefits of the splash park for a diversity of community members, including the 140 who responded that their child has a disability or is neurodiverse, for whom water can have a calming effect.
- A need to include seating for parents and caregivers.
Scope - At the October 15, 2024 Council budget meeting, Council endorsed a staff recommendation to deliver a splash park with recirculating water system, and to delay the playground component to a later date, due to project budget constraints. The project was scoped with a splash park drain-to-waste water system, but with limited District potable water supply, a recirculating water system is recommended.
Location - The splash park will be located north-west of the existing pool location. This location is in proximity to the anticipated future pool expansion, existing outdoor gym and stand of conifer trees, and will be located on an area where there is existing parking and existing Public Works Parks’ department buildings. The playground should be adjacent and north of the splash park project. The playground is anticipated to be built at a future date.
Next Steps – Staff is currently working with consultant on splash park concept design and recirculating water system design.
- 2024/2025 – Application to Vancouver Coastal Health for approval
- 2025 – Splash park construction
- 2026 – Splash park operational

The location of the Splash Park and Playground will be in proximity to the recreation centre and playing fields, and may be located side-by-side.
Anticipated Timeline:
- Design 2024
- Build 2025
- Open 2025
The District is determining the water system for the Splash Park. We are looking at potential synergies with the pool mechanical system and other future uses within Brennan Park Fields and Lands. Considerations include water conservation, and future ongoing costs and requirements of a water system.
The Splash Park and Playground will be built with a focus on inclusion and accessibility. We want to ensure it has features that are inclusive and will allow all children to use and enjoy this area.
