Co-Living Bylaw Amendment Adopted by Council

October 28, 2026

We are pleased to share that Council has adopted a new co-living framework, which introduces clear definitions and regulations to support this type of housing in Squamish.

What does this mean?

Co-living housing is now permitted in the Residential 1 (R-1), Residential 4 (R-4), and Residential 5 (R-5) zones. The new framework establishes rules to help ensure that co-living developments are well-designed and compatible with surrounding neighbourhoods.

Some of the key requirements include:

  • A maximum of six private units within a co-living dwelling
  • Shared indoor amenity space for residents
  • Minimum and maximum parking requirements
  • Shared waste and recycling storage areas
  • Business licensing requirements

These regulations provide greater clarity for property owners, residents, and developers interested in co-living housing while helping to support a range of housing options in the community.
