Updating Residential Zoning to align with the Squamish Housing Action Plan

The District of Squamish is hosting an in-person open house as part of the proposed zoning updates to align with provincial legislation and the Squamish Housing Action Plan.

Open house events are a chance for any interested community members to review the proposed updates to the zoning bylaw and have any questions answered by District staff.

What's proposed: The District proposes a new zone, R-1, to replace the traditional single unit dwelling residential zones (RS-1, RS-2, and RS-3 zones) in most areas of the District. Staff introduced the proposed new zone at the April 9 Committee of the Whole meeting.

These updates will:

- Increase flexibility through zoning changes.

- Increase the permitted number of dwelling units on a lot from three to four.

- Permit a wider array of housing types, increase the potential range of siting options, and reduce required parking.

Prior to the open house, please feel free to:

-Review the proposed zoning updates in the Report to Council presented for the Committee of the Whole on April 9: https://shorturl.at/zLy0Q

-Refreshments (tea and coffee).
