Help shape the future of work in Squamish.
The District of Squamish is creating a Labour Force Development Plan to help our community prepare for future jobs and workforce needs.
The plan will look at:
- What jobs are needed now and in the future
- What skills and training people need to succeed
- Challenges facing workers and employers
- How local organizations can work together to support employment opportunities
The plan will help guide actions over the next decade to support a strong local economy and create opportunities for people who live and work in Squamish.
This project is led by the District of Squamish, with support from Qatalyst Research Group and Synergy Foundation. Work on the plan will take place from April 2026 to March 2027.
- A picture of Squamish’s current workforce and future employment needs— who works here, where the gaps are, and what is changing.
- Recommendations for key industries and sectors.
- Practical, fundable actions that employers, training providers, government, Indigenous partners, and community organizations can work on together.
- Opportunities to support Indigenous economic participation and reconciliation
- A roadmap that identifies who will lead the work, how it can be funded, and how success will be measured.
Squamish is growing quickly.
As our community grows, local employers need workers with the right skills, and residents need access to meaningful jobs and training opportunities.
At the same time, rising housing costs, changing industries, and climate goals are creating new challenges and opportunities.
This plan will help us better understand these changes and create a shared vision for the future of work in Squamish.
We want community members, workers, job seekers, employers, students, and local organizations to help shape that future.
Ways We Will Engage
There are many ways to take part. Choose the option that works for you — and participate in as many as you like. We are intentional about reaching people whose voices are often missed — including women and gender-diverse people, youth, older workers, newcomers, Indigenous community members, and persons with disabilities. We will work to remove barriers to participation wherever we can (see “What if I need accommodations to participate?” in the FAQs).
Surveys are available online and can be provided in alternative formats upon request. Surveys are available in screen-reader-compatible formats, in large print upon request, and in plain language. Paper copies and language support are available upon request.

1-2 cross-sector workshops to test draft strategies with employers, workers, educators, Indigenous partners, and community organizations.

Five sector-specific working sessions (e.g. green construction, regenerative agriculture, tourism/outdoor recreation, and clean-tech).
