A big thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in the Ravenswood Park survey this spring. We received 119 responses and heard a strong desire to see the park become a welcoming space for neighbours, children, and families to gather, play, and connect.

What's Next?

The District is moving forward with Ravenswood Park improvements. You can view the Park Plan below (see image on left side). There may be adjustments along the way, but largely this is the Plan we will follow.

Based on community feedback and available funding, the work will focus on:

Activating the north end of the park while retaining the south end as open grass space for informal play and recreation.
Improving drainage to make the park more usable year-round.
Adding a gravel pathway to improve access into the centre of the park.
Creating nature play opportunities using donated cedar logs and boulders.
Planting native trees, shrubs, and a pollinator meadow through support from the Squamish Environmental Reserve Fund.
Installing a custom oversized picnic table, created in partnership with OurSquamish and the Men's Shed, to provide a central gathering space for the community.

The park construction is anticipated to last roughly a month during October/November 2026. After the park improvements are made, the new area will be closed for the winter so that the plants have time to establish. The fencing will then be removed Spring 2027.

Looking Ahead

The District has developed a long-term vision for Ravenswood Park (see image on right side below) that extends beyond the improvements planned for late 2026/early 2027. While municipal funding has not been identified for future amenities, a complete park design is in place should additional resources become available at a future date.

Future enhancements could be supported through community fundraising initiatives, grants, sponsorships, donations, or future District investment.

The District of Squamish allocated $100,000 from the Community Amenity Contribution to fund small-scale improvements in the Ravenswood Park to support increased neighbourhood use and enjoyment of the park.

With a limited budget, we are purposefully designing this park to remain flexible for future improvements. Small scale activations for imaginary play, shade and seating, and a grassy open area for free play are being considered, pending public feedback.

The Ravenswood neighbourhood were invited to share their feedback through a short survey before the finalization of a concept plan, costing, and the begining of construction. Residents were also invited to let us know if there is any interest in becoming a "community champion" (more below), and we welcomed the neighbourhood to attend a Ravenswood Park in-person pop-up to speak with planners and answer any questions on April 29 from 4-6pm.

Ravenswood Park is located at 39296 Falcon Crescent, at the intersection of Falcon Crescent and Blue Jay Way. The park is currently an open grass area with a picnic table, bench, trees, and a little library.

The available budget limits the scope of improvements that can be made, so District staff will focus on identifying cost-effective park enhancements that can be delivered within the allocated budget. The budget will also likely need to incorporate drainage improvements and site preparation.

It is not expected that the budget will stretch to features such as manufactured playground equipment (e.g. swings, slides, monkey bars). Nature-based features such as logs, rocks, and sand will be considered instead as they are more cost-effective and can be sourced through existing District resources and in-kind donations.

We invited neighbourhood input to:

Understand who will use the park, and their needs and preferences.
Identify which features the neighbourhood would prioritize within budget constraints.
Inform the development of the park design.

Other Information

We recognize there are homes in close proximity to this public park space. Site activation will consider home and yard proximity in the following ways:

Potential buffer planting between activated space and homes.
Locating seating closer to the street rather than closer to homes.
Efforts to limit overlook from the park space to homes.

Neighbourhood parks are intended primarily for local neighbourhood use, with park users primarily arriving by foot or bike. The activation of Ravenswood Park is not intended to create additional parking or traffic concerns in the area.

Note that the park is being referred to as “Ravenswood Park” because it is in the Ravenswood neighbourhood. In time, the park may be given a different name.

A Parks and Recreation Master Plan for Squamish will be undertaken beginning in 2027 that will, in part, look at park space across all neighbourhoods and identify priority investments to fill gaps across the community.
