Have your say on which views should stay! As development occurs downtown, the District wants to preserve important views from main streets, street corners, public plazas and parks. Your input during this process will help to inform the District's first Viewscape Study. The Viewscape Study will determine which views from public places in Downtown Squamish should be preserved. In line with our Official Community Plan, the Viewscape Study will create policy to guide future development in downtown. This study will not include views from private properties.

Four ways to Participate

1. Take the Survey (10min):

The survey is now closed. It was open from August 11 - September 22, 2022.

2. Walking Tours (1.5hrs):

Bring your phone or camera and attend one of the public downtown walking tour dates. You’ll be guided through a walking tour of key locations downtown. At each location you will be encouraged to take photos of the views you want to preserve most (Don’t worry if you don't have a phone or camera, we will bring some extras). Tours will be guided by District Planning staff so you’ll also get an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about development downtown. Please register for the tour that fits your schedule best.

All walking tours are now complete. Thank you to everyone who joined us.

3. Site Specific Sessions (30min):

We are also hosting a series of site specific sessions. Each session will last about 30min and explore which views are important to preserve in the following locations:

  • Intersection at Cleveland & Winnipeg
  • Stan Clarke Park
  • Junction Park
  • Mamquam Blind Channel

All site specific sessions are now complete. Thank you to everyone who joined us.

4. Share Views on the Virtual Map:

Want to share your feedback virtually? Please use the map below to share photos of the downtown views that are important to you.

  1. Zoom in to the map and drag a pin to the exact location where you took your photo
  2. Describe the location and upload your photo
  3. Tell us why this view is important to you.

Hi there, thanks for reaching out to us on this platform. This project is focusing more on the natural views from downtown rather than what buildings will look like. When available, you can see and provide feedback about the design details for individual developments that are proposed on the Development Showcase. If you have any further questions about natural views from Downtown, please don't hesitate to reach out to us here.
