The District of Squamish is updating two water regulation bylaws. The current bylaws have not been updated since the 1980’s. As our community grows, changes to the bylaws are needed to support water conservation and fairness for all residents and businesses in Squamish.
There will be no change to water related fees or charges as part of these bylaw updates. However, any fees or charges mentioned in the bylaws will be moved to the Fees and Charges Bylaw.
You can review the water bylaw changes that are being proposed here.
The proposed changes to the water regulation bylaws will:
- Make it easier to understand each bylaw;
- Minimize illegal connections to the water system;
- Provide clarity on allowed water uses and what is considered water waste;
- Clearly define the roles and responsibilities for maintenance and repairs to water infrastructure and outline which costs are the responsibility of property owners;
- Outline the conditions that allow for disconnections from the water system and the conditions that will allow District staff to access private property to evaluate water connections and metering infrastructure;
- Allow the District to implement the water metering program for industrial, commercial, and institutional (ICI) businesses.
