Welcome to Let's Talk Squamish! This is the District of Squamish's online home for public engagement for residents to provide meaningful input into the decision-making process. Squamish is shaped by the people in our community. Let's Talk Squamish provides an opportunity for residents to weigh in on topics that matter.

On this site you'll find important information about projects that are shaping the future of our community, and ways for us to hear from you. We hope you'll use this space to ask questions, share ideas, and provide feedback on the projects that are most important to you.

A Positive Space to Build the Future

There are a variety of perspectives in our community. On Let's Talk Squamish, we are bringing different ideas together. It is a positive space that allows us to work together so that we can all contribute to our shared future.

This site does not replace the important conversations that we look forward to at in-person events. Instead, it is a home for all engagement information online. It offers anyone in Squamish an opportunity to participate, at anytime, when it's convenient for you. We'll be sure to share information here about in-person engagement events and registration details as they come up.

This site is updated on a regular basis with new projects. Please register to stay up to date on the projects that matter to you. Once you have registered, you can participate in all of the discussion forums, ask a question, share an idea, map your priorities, complete a survey, and more. It's a simple registration process and you only have to do it once.

We're looking forward to the conversation, Squamish!

Question: How loud is too loud - events held at Junction Park and O'Siyam Pavilion music events and is the cut off 10:00 p.m.? The events being held are too loud. For those living downtown, and events growing, from what used to be a few like amped in the park on Thursdays (lower volume for a couple of hours), to every weekend, lasting many hours and most recently to 11:00 p.m., it is adversely impacting quiet enjoyment. At 10:30 p.m., with buildings between and windows closed, the music was too loud. To the point you could hear the announcer saying they couldn't play anymore or they will be fined. Other similar jurisdictions prohibit such events in public parks close to residential. I'm asking for a simple resolution. Event organizers and sound technicians lower the levels and consider neighbourhood residents in line with DOS Good Neighbour Guidelines.

Hello and thank you for reaching out with this question. We apologize for the delay in replying to you – there was an error in the way our system alerts us to questions received on this page, which has since been fixed.

Balancing the noise concerns of residents across our community, while recognizing the limited facilities available in town for these types of events is an important consideration. Most events fall within the District’s Noise Bylaw, which states that all events must be quiet by 10 p.m. However, some events can apply for an extension that is negotiated between the District and the applicant. In 2022 there were two events held at Junction Park and U Siyam Pavilion that were extended to allow music until 11 p.m. and one event that began before the 7 a.m. morning curfew.

We do take feedback from residents into account when permitting future events. Feedback regarding the noise levels, level of bass used and music genre, has been provided specifically to one of the event organizers that hosted a large event downtown this summer.

One of the considerations that the District is working towards with event organizers is to move some larger events to the Loggers Sports Grounds to help balance some events around town. The Loggers Sports Grounds is not a purpose-built music venue however, and thus, is not suitable for every event. It is something we are looking at though to spread out the impacts.

In the future, we invite you to share noise concerns directly with the District’s Manager of Arts & Culture, Sarah Morris, at smorris@squamish.ca. Thank you.
