Thank you for the question benjyblack - the District is currently working on a study to determine the best option to provide an all ages and abilities cycling connection between downtown and Brackendale on the west side of the highway. The area between Garibaldi Way and the Easter Seals camp is part of this study. Pedestrians are also being considered in the study where there are no existing pedestrian facilities in place. Once the study is complete, Council will have the opportunity to provide input on the plan. Following this, work will begin on prioritizing the project compared to other active transportation upgrades and then staff will move into design/construction. We do not have an estimated construction date at this time.

Where can I get more details about the nature and scope of this partnership agreement? Thank you for the question Roverdevin.

OurSquamish presented to Council on March 14, 2023. A copy of their presentation and the video recording of the meeting is available here. https://squamish.civicweb.net/Portal/MeetingInformation.aspx?Org=Cal&Id=1771

With regards to the nature and scope of a partnership agreement, below are some details. (As the budget is still proposed at this point, the agreement is not yet finalized).

OurSquamish is a community non-profit charity dedicated to enhancing Squamish’s urban public spaces for a lively, inclusive, sustainable, safe & healthy Squamish. A partnership agreement would allow OurSquamish to retain an Executive Director who can lead and manage projects, train volunteers, and fundraise for projects that carry out District of Squamish (DOS) priorities. Proposed partnership initiatives (over three years) include:

    • Deliver urban public space improvements guided by the 2021/22 Public Spaces Survey, Official Community Plan, and ongoing community engagement
    • Support DOS policy and planning initiatives on urban public spaces through community engagement and provision of expert input, for example on the the Parks and Recreation Master Plan.
    • Provide input on public spaces in development proposals if/as requested by DOS
    • Repeat the Public Spaces Survey with a focus on equity-deserving communities
    • Conduct policy analysis and research to support OS and DOS initiatives related to public spaces, such as a Downtown Urban Tree Canopy study
    • Conduct quarterly meetings (or as necessary) with an assigned DOS staffer
    • Develop annual workplan for Council and/or Staff
    • Undertake annual presentation to Council and/or Staff including financials
